First Day
Welcome to my Datsun PL510 web page. This web page is intended to document the restoration and modification process of my 1969 Datsun PL510. My project started with a car sourced from southern Texas. The car was cheap but had some rust. The 510 did have some desirable modifications already. There was an L20B engine from a 1978 620 truck and a 5 speed Dogleg transmission from a 200SX.
The first activities undertaken on the car were getting it running, fixing the brakes and performing a safety check. All fluids were checked and filled. Radiator hoses were missing so they were added. One challenge encountered was making the ignition system operational. The previous owner installed the L20B with the electronic distributor but no ignition control module. After some research, it was determined that a 4 pin GM HEI ignition module could be used. After the ignition was fixed, the engine was test fired. After a few tries the engine finally stated and ran ok.
